seems to be the only CS (or commonly NTU Wee Kim Wee School) graduate to have make it big in the film industry thus far.
He first made the low-budget DV feature, S-11, in 2006 with another CS alumni. Then 3 years later, Chan co-directed Love Matters with Jack Neo.
And his third feature with the upcoming 23:59.
Based on a true story when an army recruit (said to be from Charlie Company) was mysteriously found dead on Pulau Tekong and his inner organs arranged orderly beside his lifeless body. This should have been made into film a long time ago man! A reminder that there must have been more Singaporean tales that are waiting to be made into films.
Gilbert Chan's success should be an inspiration and good reminder to all of us wannabe filmmakers from CS, whether alumni or undergrads. We came into the school wanting to make movies and I wonder how many of us are still holding on to that dream?
