Fundamentally no pipala tree exists,
Nor the stand of a mirror bright.
Since all is empty from the beginning,
Where can the dust alight?

Break the hiatus from politics. Solid speech from MP Vikram Nair. I'm a new fan. Exposed holes in WP's speeches. Bo wei gong. Then again, this will go mostly unnoticed with the anti-establishment fervour at a new high.

Vikram Nair doesn't get it. It's not merely about the absolute sum of money. While the Committee's version and the WP's version may end up with the same numbers for entry grade ministers, the rationale behind the formula is the thing to look out for.
This is why we need serious discussion and debate in parliament, to air the pros and cons of important issues. It also helps us crystalise our own thoughts.
I don't like the proposed and also the current formula because it is attached to the income of the highest earners. The absolute amounts may be similar now (under the 2 proposals) but it can swing very quickly. Also, on the other hand, if the numbers are so similar, why not consider the WP formula, which is even more straightforward? And why dictate very specific Terms of Reference to the Salary Committee in the first place?
Put it in yet another way ... whose pay in the world has an increment system that if you were to suffer a 30% pay cut now, would bring your pay back to only 2007 levels?
